Oceans now absorb approximately 33% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. This high level of absorption is causing acidification, which impairs shellfish shell formation and coral reef skeletal growth. Can we mitigate acidification and improve carbon sequestration?
SeaTrees is a program under the non-profit Sustainable Surf, focused on reversing climate change by restoring coastal ecosystems worldwide. By planting, protecting, and restoring kelp and mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, coral reefs, oyster reefs, and coastal watersheds, SeaTrees sequesters carbon, enhances biodiversity, and supports local communities. Their nature-based solutions not only combat climate change but also create sustainable livelihoods, highlighting the ocean’s critical role in preserving our planet’s future.
